Alcatraz Closes Its Doors March 19, 2007:
On March 21, 1963, Alcatraz closed after being a federal
penitentiary for 29 years. Al Capone and Robert Franklin
Stroud (“Birdman of Alcatraz”) were among the well-known
prisoners housed there.
