| Description: | 15 Perish On Yuletide Pilgrim Ship Tragedy strikes when a French vessel, carrying pilgrims to the Holy Land for Christmas, goes aground. High winds and breaking seas frustrate rescue attempts for two days. Fifteen perish in the waves before survivors can be brought ashore. View from shore of ship listing to one side in stormy seas. Shot of people (survivors?) in the water, making their way toward shore, only their heads visible above the rough waves. A group of people push a rowboat into the water, trying to help rescue people. Shot of the ship partly broken in half (!), a smaller ship next to it, presumably part of the rescue effort. Men on shore tug on a rope (not sure what they are pulling). One small rescue boat reaches shore. Heroic rescue workers -- they look like a mix of officials (wearing helmets) and just civilians -- help the injured survivors along the beach. Circular life preserver on beach. Tragic story; very dramatic pictures. | |
