| Description: | This is quite an interesting film. The first three hundred feet is a B&W documentation of the 1957 construction equipment trade show featuring the Clark Michigan model line. The second half of the film switches to beautiful Kodachrome color, and is a lighting studio replication of the show's performing ventriloquist, Jimmy Nelson and Danny O'Day. The following are a few of the shots involved. 0' to 100'..........(in B&W) fairly typical convention scenes of tractors and men in black suits and fancy fedoras inspecting the products... MS's and CU's of said men leafing through tractor catalogs... tight LS's of demo models (incidentally, the convention is indoors). 100' to 200'......MS of man helping a woman in high heels into the cab of a scraper model... MS of man climbing onto a scraper and playing w/ the control panel... MS of little boy on scraper, plays w/ the control panel and steering wheel... MS of 3 older men inspecting the torque converter model display. 200' to 300'...... MS's of Clark employees talking to clients @ show... MS's of the show's hostesses posing for the press... tight LS's of patrons watching ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson perform with Danny O' Day (includes a MS from behind Jimmy and dummy). 300' to 700'......switches to color; ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson and his figure (dummy, ventriloquist's doll) Danny O' Day along with buddy Farfel the Dog recreate their act for the camera in a lighting studio.... topics range from love, freckles, girlfriends, "the birds and the bees," soda, beer, tractors, building foundations, love among animals, the Michigan story, and Clark equipment. Towards the end it becomes a 3-way act as Jimmy brings in Farfel, a lazy bloodhound with lots of one-liners. It ends with Danny saying, " Good night Christine Jorgensen, whichever you are." The routine is fast and funny, the ventriloquism excellent. | |
