| Description: | A GLEAM FROM ALADDIN at the Palladium Theatre, w/ Clarice Mayne and Charles Austin. London Starts out w/ shot from front of balcony (?) showing most of stage: 2 long screens w/ dragons painted on them, one in front of the other. The screens tilt backward and a head appears over each one. Then the screens split into many pieces, each held up by a dancer, and they move around the stage making various formations, turning into rotating circles, etc. The girls wear Chinese style trouser suits and hats. Next, more wild scenery: set of an enchanted cave where actors & actresses in fabulous costumes move past in stiff poses. Charles Austin plays Widow Twankey. Next, scene of imperial palace, with a man in drag as a dowdy Western woman enters the palace, goes up to the throne, whacks the Emperor on the shoulder and hands him a box. | |
