| Description: | A MUSICAL PLAY IN THE MAKING Julian Wylie prepares for his next show "The Apache" - auditions, rehearsals, choreography etc. CU Wylie (the show's producer?) talking on old-fashioned telephone, w/smoke from his cigar curling around his head. MLS Wylie seated at desk; 3 others in the room. One man - the set designer - picks up a box from the desk; can see that it is a model of the stage set. He sets it on a pedestal and they all look at it. ECU painted background inside the model. MCU Wylie pointing at & discussing features of the model set. MLS producer sitting at desk signing paper. LS artist types wearing sweaters and berets as they paint the scenery canvas. MS's of 2 different scenery artists at work. MS female costume designer meeting w/producer in his office; he looks at her sketches. CU one of the sketches. Dissolve to MLS model wearing this same dress, classic 1920's w/layered hem. LS as 2 more models enter and strike poses. MS models turn around while Wylie watches them appreciatively. LS crowd of women in coats and hats lined up, waiting for chorus girl auditions. MS Wylie & assistant walking past line of women; assistant taking notes; Wylie talking to/about some of the women; the women are all giving him big smiles and laughing at his jokes. LS as the first line of girls is sent off and another line steps forward. They remove their hats and try to fix their hair while Wylie & the other guy look them over. Next, LS as the women stand in a line behind a piano and take turns singing while Wylie watches. MCU woman singing in comic exaggerated way w/her mouth wide open. MCU Wylie looking pained, he shakes his head and waves her away. GV rehearsal as Wylie directs the principal actors while chorus girls stand in BG. (Actors/actresses are Dorothy Ward, Shaun Glenville, Adrienne Brun & Carl Brisson.) CU's of 3 actors cut into LS of rehearsal scene. LS from side of stage of the chorus girls learning dance choreography; they wear identical short-shorts and sleeveless tops. | |
