| Description: | A PEEP AT DEAR LOVE Scenes from the musical comedy "Dear Love" which stars Claude Hulbert, Annie Croft and Tom Burke at the Palace Theatre, London. Claude Hulbert in baggy trousers dances in front of a male & female chorus. Stage set is rustic village. He does a comedy dance involving falls and various funny business. LS chorus move to sides. Hulbert does a comic dance w/ sideways somersaults. He falls forward & catches himself w/ his hands several times. Then he finally exits dancing on all fours. "Weddings always fascinate Eve, even stage weddings, especially when such handsome stars as Annie Croft and Tom Burke are the Bride and Groom. ("And such a perfectly adorable gown, my dear!")" Wide shot of fashionable wedding scene: bride and groom (Annie Croft and Tom Burke) enter room where guests are lined up to greet them. A fragrant Ballet fragment" is shown - a group of chorus girls in long ballet outfits do a high kick routine. Wide shot from above ballet scene: female chorus dancing. Shot from onstage dancers twirling - can see that only a few are wearing ballet slippers most of them have white stage dance shoes. Back to wide shot. "Another fragment - by Sidney Howard and Vera Pearce - (In an Apache Dance all their own.)" Sidney Howard and Vera Pearce perform a comic dance. She wears a split skirt that shows off her stocking tops. He wears a kind of Tyrollean peasant outfit (he has a feather in his cap and trousers tucked into socks.) They start out like a Tango but lose each other on one of the turns. Next he makes a great show of preparing to lift her, but when he can't he shakes her and knocks her down. When she gets up she knocks him down. He then takes her head and shakes it, letting her go so that she falls down on the stage. He tries to help her up, again she is too heavy. When he does pull her up, she hits him with her belly and he falls over. She then waddles over to him and they dance holding on to each others' necks. They spin around a bit, then the dance ends w/ a crash when she does a handstand & falls into him, and they both fall down. | |
