| Description: | A REALLY OLD TIME JOB An old fashioned tannery in the Cotswolds is featured - various processes demonstrated - very nice. Tanyards in England. Shot looking down on yard where worker is pushing skins on a wheelbarrow; old ramshackle buildings all around. MLS another worker pulling wool from sheepskin, using only his hands. Shot looking through low opening into building where a mule hitched to a long wooden arm walks around in a circle to power the machine for grinding tanning bark. MLS workers tossing skins into tanning pits, poking them around w/ long sticks. Worker w/ a tool like a giant tweezers fishes skins out of the liquid; another guy tosses them over a sawhorse-shaped thing. MLS worker Dusty Harris stirring dye pot, next to ancient stone wall. MCU he picks up a scoopful of dye, pours it back into pot. Back to MLS; another man comes along and helps to carry the steaming pot. Interior: skins hanging over wooden bars; Harris working in BG. MS Harris dressing a skin, smoking a pipe while he works. (Title says "you either smoke or wear a gas mask here".) Dusty Harris beating 2 skins to get out excess dressing; dust flies all around him. MS 2 men, one holding up pair of gloves, the other a strip of leather. CU woman's hands in beautiful white gloves w/ long embroidered cuffs (gauntlets). | |
