See also catalog # 253073 Pathe News Special on the Hindenburg disaster with shots filmed by American Pathe on the Hindenburg's visit and dramatic and tragic self-destruction in U.S. Opening titles: PATHE NEWS SPECIAL. Shots of the zeppelin preparing to dock flying over New York City, New York, and Newark, New Jersey- , with title "Actual Zeppelin Crash!" title over it. Hindenburg cruises over Manhattan with small white prop plane. Narrator describes the zeppelin while cam pans around airborne airship. Shot of the Hindenburg from the ground. Swastikas visible on tail. LS as it approaches the ground. Zeppelin empties its ballasts which the narrator claims is indicative of impending trouble; they are apparently trying to make airship level. Ground crew and crowd gather as H. continues to dump ballast. Landing lines are dropped and ground crew gathers them as narrator continues to warn of trouble. Pan from ship down to ground crew as landing lines are released. Sound of an explosion (but no image of the initial explosion). Famous shot of explosion, flames, burning, crash, deflation; cuts to the airship already in flames, nose in the air, consumed in flames, crumbling to ground, ground crew & others sprinting out of the way, rescuers racing towards the crash. TLSs flaming wreckage, thick black smoke rising into air as rescue workers & firemen arrive. Pan across skeleton of mangles steel to still smouldering flames.Panning TLS twisted metal wreckage, flames in BG. TLS remains of ship nose - good CU of skeletal structure.
