Paris, France Discount department store in Paris; France opens its doors, meets with great success. 1926. Title (in French) "Fighting the high cost of living." A lot of people actually wait outside in the rain for the store to open! Wide shot panning across city street on rainy day: some people stand under umbrellas at bus stop, pedestrians, traffic - -and across street at left a big crowd lined up down the sidewalk huddle under umbrellas waiting for the discount store to open its doors; there are also several young women in white coats (clerks?) hurrying about- -not clear what they're up to, they seem to walk round in a circle in the street before heading toward the store. View from across st. showing 2 floors of building; w/ signs: "La Maison de Gros" & signs for 18 million items at 50% off price. MLS of the line waiting for the shop to open; 2 police officers stand at head of line; at least it's stopped raining now. Crowd pouring through the door of the shop; police there to keep order, but the ladies are fairly well behaved.
