| Description: | All through the town. Advent of Lent celebrated with Centuries-old Shrovetide Football Game. Alnwick, Northumberland A piper leads a band of men across a courtyard, and they are handed a football. We see a man surrounded by a crowd of all ages as he evidently points to the start of the game and kicks the ball forward. It looks like a free for all, as a mass of men in winter coats and ordinary clothes kick the ball and mill about near a set of rugby style goal posts decorated with greenery. The crowd are then seen watching two men swimming across some water, with the ball, trying to reach the far bank. | |
