| Description: | ANCIENT MODELS A tour of the Museum of Costume in Kent - real people model historical costumes. Eridge Castle in Kent. In the grounds of a country house (it doesn't look like a castle) two children in 1850s costume play in the garden. C/U of two women, also dressed in 1850s outfits. One of the women puts up a parasol. Another shot of the children playing - the girl skips and the boy bounces a ball. The narrator informs us that two wings of the castle have been loaned to Mrs Doris Langley-Moore to house one of the most complete collections of historical costumes in the world. It is known as the Museum of Costume and was opened by the Queen Mother. Unlike most museums the costumes are not kept under glass but on realistic models. Two women look around the Museum. C/Us of mannequin wearing a gold brocade gown which dates from 1740. M/S and C/Us of some of the mannequins. Narrator speaks of men's costume and there are C/Us of the costumes on display. M/S of three dressed mannequins. Suddenly one moves, the woman in the centre is real! C/U of her looking at a hat. Two women look closely at one of the costumes and the model suddenly moves. The women laugh. C/U of a woman's feet. Camera pans up to show a mannequin wearing a 1920s knitted suit. A real model wears a beaded Charleston dress. Exterior shot. A woman in an old fashioned bathing costume sits on a well holding a parasol. Suddenly a man in a stripy long legged bathing suit appears and takes her hand. They walk off together. They walk away from the camera hand in hand. | |
