| Description: | 16:00:31:- MS of a bronze statue of St. Francis, a little bird in his hand and a dog at his feet (inside the humane society shelter's lobby); zoom in CU's of the bird, the dog, and St. Francis. Pan right to MS of Dr. Line (Animal Behaviorist and Branch Director) and Mike Lukas (the TV host and comedian): they're standing in the incoming wing of the shelter, talking about the processes of admitting new animals (cats and dogs only). The camera follows the flow of conversation. They walk through a set of doors-- the camera trailing them-- and stop outside the indoor kennel (heavy sounds of barking animals). They talk more about the business and operations; includes a panning tight LS (through glass window) of the shelter's examination department which is empty, sans one employee. 16:06:39:- MS of a cat in a cage nursing several young kittens. Tilt up to a young cat in a cage mewling and playing through the cage with Mike's fingers; they take him out and Mike plays with him, immediately quieting the kitten; the kitten climbs onto Mike's shoulder, looks around (especially into the camera), then tries to climb onto the camera (great, funny, cute material). CU of the kitten, back in the cage, mewling and crying and trying to get out (climbs the cage, too). Cut to a CU of a cat nursing a litter. 16:10:32:- wide MS of Dr. Line and Mike sitting in a nice room of the facility and tallking. They discuss, in interview style, animal behavior, animal emotions (which ones do they experience? how does the owner get in touch with them?), Dr. Line's job philosophy, behaviorial evaluation, Dr. Line's background and education, if dogs can laugh, if a baboon could logically press and throw a grown human being out a window (don't know why, but they do) and if chimps make good pets. | |
