| Description: | Ever wonder what it would be like to go bass trout fishing in the Canadian Northwest Territories with C&W legend BOBBY BARE and friends? Well, take those stars out of yer eyes and dream no more. Before there were Saturday morning TV fishing shows there were fascinating one-off films such as this. Opens with a lengthy Schlitz tag, cut to dissolving montage of various country music-themed nightclub signs gleaming in the Nashville night, cut to MS's of Bobby performing a song of his ("The Mermaid") in a RCA/Victor recording studio; after a take he tells the engineer that he's been invited by a friend to go fishing, which he's gladly accepted... in fact, he says he's cancelled several appearances just to go; he then sings a song about fishing. Bobby narrates from here on in..... subjective view from small commercial seaplane in flight, cut to Bobby on crowded plane, talking to fishing buddy LEON CHANDLER; they literally land in Lake Kasba..... MS's Bobby and Leon walking to small motorboat, carrying their rods and a Schlitz cooler; they stop & talk to a fellow fisherman who's caught a 27 lb bass, who eagerly shows them the catch; they board boat, set off into lake. CU's of their guide and his electronic trout locator. MS's men catching big bass; they admire it, then put it back into the lake. CU's Leon packing tobacco into a pipe, lighting it..... MS's Bobby fighting a bass, pulling it on board; CU's of the catch, including one of its wide mouth where you can see clear to its tail; Bobby gently puts the fish back into the lake. MS's Bobby and Leon both catching bass, these to be used for lunch..... MS's & CU's of the troop at camp on rocky shore, fileting fish, cutting them, frying them on campfire, placing can of beans beside pan; they eat, enjoy..... CU Leon opening three-tiered tackle box, full of flies. CU Bobby's piddly rod lure. MS's Leon, pipe in mouth, fly-fishing, catching a prized Grayling; CU's Bobby and Leon measuring the catch; MS Leon putting the fish back..... MS's of guide dropping Bobby off at a shallow area for some solo trout fishing. MS's of a bear fishing nearby..... MS's & CU's Leon giving Bobby a crash course in fly fishing; wide MS Bobby happily catching a Grayling. MS's friends catching Graylings with rods and reels. Bobby hopes civilization never catches up with Lake Kasba. CU Leon clipping fly from mouth of Grayling, cut to MS of Leon setting it free..... MS's & CU's Leon, Bobby and guide trout fishing from motorboat on lake. CU's trout on deck, gasping for air. MS Leon taking picture of dark colored trout before putting it back. CU's electronic trout locator. MS's & CU's Bobby fighting a large trout; great C/A of the "at least 25 pound" trout breaking the surface, thrashing about until snapping the line, ultimately getting away..... closes with same Schlitz spot that opened film. | |
