| Description: | ON PREVIEW CASSETTE # 210313 A literal hodge-podge of American television commercials from the 1970's, in the following order...(ON PREVIEW TAPE # 991881) 1) ALKA-SELTZER - MS's of a young married couple getting ready for bed. The wife lies in bed and flips through a cookbook, while the husband stands in the bathroom, trying to ease the pain of his wife's experimental dumpling dinner by secretly taking a dose of A-S. She declares the next evening's dinner will be poached oysters. Yuck. 2) SOS SCOURING PADS - crude animation of a verbal street battle between pink and blue scouring pads, culminating in a water duel at five paces. Blue wins. Go, Blue. 3) ALKA-SELTZER GOLD - funny MS's of a man wandering through his umpteenth high school reunion, trying to figure out whose meal repeatedly gives him heartburn. Is it Angora Angie's sumptuous Macaroni and Cheese? Or is it...? 4) ERICH SEGAL'S "OLIVER'S STORY" - advertising a book on TV? Whoa, that's odd. 5) SANKA COFFEE - MS's of various people drinking coffee (different strokes for different folks): a man in his pajamas standing outside a parked mobile home; a sailor returns home; a showgirl steals one last sip before going on-stage; cowhands rustles up by a campfire (daytime); man cheering at a sporting event; inner city busybodies hanging out of windowsills, and so on. 6) ALKA-SELTZER - another late night: LS's and MS's of a diner, the parking lot filled with truck drivers and such; two drivers get into a trcuk, drive off; CU's of the two drivers in the darkened cab, one of them suffering from heartburn. LS of a truck pulling into a truck stop, a glowing Alka-Seltzer sign hanging over the establishment. 7) ALKA-SELTZER - an ultimately funny spot about beating "the blahs". MS of a bundled man holding a MIAMI sign while standing by the side of a wintry road; a car pulls up, the window rolls down; the female passenger states that she's only going to Fort Lauderdale, a mere 30 mins outside of Miami; the man is viciously dejected, mopes back to the curb. MS of a sad-looking man in a tie sitting at a table, dropping a packet of A-S into a glass of water... unfortunately he's forgotten to take the tablets out of the package. 8) BENSON & HEDGES 100'S - quick spot for their brand of cigarettes. A product shot, not much more. 9) BENSON & HEDGES 100'S - a silly black and white romp about the pleasure of smoking their brand of cigarette. MS of a suave cat burglar robbing the wall safe of a fancy home; an alarm sounds and he slips behind the curtains, his lit cigarette protruding through the part. MS of a haggard man on a shifty raft in the middel of the ocean, several cartons of cigarettes his companion; zoom in to CU as he brings a smoke to his lips; he's sad as he doesn't have a light. MS on the set of a World War One drama, a capper boy standing next to an American doughboy; the capper boy claps and breaks the cigarette dangling from the actor's lip. 10) IVORY LIQUID DISH SOAP - CU testimonial, conducted on a sunny park bench, of a 37 year old housewife, about how much she enjoys life. MS's of her riding a bike with her son. CU of her washing dishes in her kitchen (focused on her hands). MS of her at home, talking to an interviewer about the importance of having soft, nice-looking hands when she goes out. CU's of her hands, her wedding ring. 11) JACOBSEN GARDEN TRACTOR - MS's of a man operating a riding tractor: he cuts grass, rotor tills the backyard, plows the earth. CU's of the steering wheel and engine cover being lifted off. 12) ROLAIDS - MS's of people at work and telling the camera how they spell relief: a barber in a barber shop, a truck driver outside his cab, a lady bowler at the lanes. CU of a beaker filled with a pink liquid; Rolaids are introduced, turning the liquid clear. 13) ACCENT FLAVOR ENHANCER - MS of a housewife preparing dinner in her kitchen, talking to the camera about the product. CU of her pouring an amount into a measuring spoon; CU of her adding the spoonful into a bowl of raw meat. 14) SEARS MEN'S STORE - quick spot about buying a business suit for around $80. Ah, inflation rears its head again. 15) JACOBSEN RIDING MOWER - MS's of a man mowing his lawn, showing off the product's features. 16) JC PENNEY - MS of a man in his underwear, sitting on a hotel room bed, talking to the camera. With the help of an open suitcase he shows all the great unmentionables his wife bought him: boxer shorts, t-shirts, tightie whities. At the end he remarks how she forgot to pack his socks, razor, suit, and so on. 17) DENTYNE - CU of an attractive young blond woman brushing her teeth... boy, does she look happy and pert! MS of her arriving at the park, interrupting a group of boys' frisbee fun. The circle descends on the carefree and liberated woman. MS of her showing one of them how to toss a frisbee. He steals a kiss. When she seems flattered and not wanting to kill the rest of the boys want a free lesson as well. Stupid, very stupid. 18) Unknown, possibly a TV show - low angle LS of a man having fun parasailing... until a CU of the tow rope fraying and breaking. Zooming in CU of a woman screaming. CU and MS of a young couple on a boat, kissing passionately. LS of a luxury car breaking a wood gate and driving into a park; MS, from INT car, of a young woman being chased down by the car. Action, adventure, crime thriller. | |
