| Description: | BABY SEAL Touching tale of a sea lion who escapes from his zoo enclosure to visit his new baby daughter. (although it is listed as a seal, this is actually a sea lion.) Chessington Zoo, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey. Exterior. M/S of a mother sea lion and her baby on a man-made rock within a zoo enclosure. The mother catches a fish in her mouth thrown for her by a zookeeper out of shot. The baby, named Liz is seven months old and was christened by the actress, Elizabeth Seal. M/S of a sea lion struggling to climb over a wire fence in another enclosure. A panning shot follows the sea lion as he gets over the fence, eats a fish and lollops down the visitors pathway to get to the enclosure of the mother and baby. He climbs over the fence and slithers into the pool. M/S of the mother and baby still on the rock. The baby sea lion jumps from the rock into the pool to meet the trespassing sea lion, her father. C/U of the father and daughter frolicking in the pool. The narrator explains "the reason for his ingenuity - a wife and delightful offspring in the adjoining pool". M/S of the keeper standing on a rock throwing fish from a bucket for the family of sea lions. Various shots of the sea lions swimming and jumping for fish. C/U of the head keeper, Ernest Engler throwing fish from the perimeter fence of the enclosure. The narrator explains that Ernest "turns a blind eye" to the father sea lion's antics and even includes an extra ration of fish for the visiting sea lion. M/S of the sea lions catching fish. C/U of one of the adult sea lions catching a fish. Various M/S of the sea lions playing and Ernest throwing fish. Gory C/U of the contents of Ernest's bucket - dead fish! Comic M/S of mother and baby sitting on the rock - the baby appears to be scratching her head. The narrator jokes "Dad's constant appearing and disappearing seem to have junior scratching his head in bewilderment". | |
