| Description: | BARBER SHOP SKIFFLE Skiffle band performs in famous barber shop at weekends. Hounslow, Middlesex. M/S of the interior of a barber shop. A barber is applying shaving cream to customer's cheeks while two men sing (barber shop quartet). They are wearing traditional costumes, have false moustache and their old fashioned singing sounds terrible. C/U shot of barber shaving a customer. Voiceover states that choir singing in barber shops is luckily a thing of the past. Instead, for years there was no sound apart from "barber's gossip" but that is changing. L/S of the interior of a modern barber shop. There are several chairs with people having haircuts and manicures. Large mirrors and shelves with various cosmetic products are on the walls and in the corner - a band! "Hairdresser Leonard Pountney has a latest style Skiffle group laid on for the weekend rush." Several shots of the skiffle band performing - interesting pre-Rolling-Stones sound. C/U shot of a singer (he plays banjo) with rosy cheeks. Cut back to the band. Low angle L/S of the line of men with white towels around their necks having their hair cut. M/S of the band performing - sounds groovy! High angle L/S of the line of hairdressers and customers, this time hairdressers are emphasized. C/U shot of a hairdresser doing finishing touches on young man's 'Elvis' hair. M/S of a man having manicure. C/U shot of the manicure girl and the man's feet tapping the rhythm. C/U shot of man's finger being manicured while his other 'free fingers' are tapping. People obviously enjoy the music. M/S of the band playing. High angle C/U shot of a man' hands playing washboard. C/U shot of man's hands playing banjo. Several other shots of the band, barbers and customers. The skifflers are lead by Ron Prengal and C/U shot of band's box reads "Ally Cats" - presumably this is the band's name. Repetition of shots of customers, band and barbers. | |
