| Description: | BASEBALL BELLES Chorus girls have a game of baseball under the guidance of Ernest Truex. Stamford Bridge, London Team sit on the field with their coach Ernest Truex. One of the girls sits in the middle of the circle w/ her legs spread, grabs onto her ankles and rolls all around the inside of the circle while in this position. She ends this w/ rolling back on her shoulders & neck and then flipping over onto her stomach. Next Mr. Truex tries this but needs help from one of the team. Next, LS 3 girls (identified as the Adam sisters from the "Five O'Clock Girl") walk across the field, w/1 walking on her hands while a 2nd holds her feet (as in a "wheelbarrow race") and the 3rd riding on the legs of the 1st. Then the trio perform a stunt where one girl lifts a 2nd up by the foot and tosses her to the 3rd who sets her down in a handstand. Finally the sisters cross arms in the back and the girl in the middle spins around, lifting the other 2, while she turns. MLS the baseball team w/ Truex in the middle walk across the field arm in arm, carrying bats & gloves. MS Truex shows batting technique to Peggy Beaty while others watch. MLS Beaty bats, catcher Jean Colin tries to catch balls. MLS another grown-up guy catches balls and throws them back while the girls are gathered around him watching. Girl baseman tags a runner out. MS Truex talks and gesticulates while he tells a player (one of the Adams) to slide; then he backs up and demonstrates it. Miss Adams then approaches a base via a cartwheel and backward somersault (shown in slow-motion) Truex helps her up, shakes hands. MCU pan on the girls and Truex cheering. Shot from up in stands of part of a practice game; out of sheer confusion in fielding a player runs round all the bases but is finally tagged out at home plate. | |
