Titles explain that the lead character, played by actor Jack Buchanan, pretends to be boxer called "Battling Butler" so he can fool his wife & hang out w/ other women while he's supposed to be training. Opens w/ shot of beautiful woman dressed in stylish clothing (an exotic pearl-trimmed dress w/ matching headdress) coming down steps, passing between 2 men in uniforms (doormen?). MCU the woman. She is followed by a series of other fashionable beauties. Next, MLS from waist down man in shorts dancing around on stage. LS the man (Jack Buchanan) in white shorts and T-shirt, boxing gloves, dances w/ chorus of 6 female dancers. Next scene Buchanan (now in long trousers and sweater) training in front of Tudor house; his wife (Sydney Fairbrother) has come to watch him train, so he's ditched the girls and pretending to be training. He punches a bounce-back dummy, does arm exercises w/ bowling pins (nearly hitting his wife during both of these activities), then he sort of twirls around a big barbell. Finally, Buchanan spars w/ the real boxing champ, played by Fred Groves. He is of course knocked silly. Ha ha! Comedy, theatre, plays, slapstick, funny, fashions. | |
