| Description: | Rising winds herald the appearance of the season's most undesirable visitor to Miami shores and the Florida Coast. Namely: "Betsy" (no lady despite the demure name). The first major hurricane of the year follows an erratic course after lashing the Bahamas. When "Betsy" finally hits Florida - from the Keys north to Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach with winds reaching a peak of 145 m.p.h the damage done is in the millions mostly from water, since "Betsy" struck at high tide, driving the sea far inland. Florida Palm trees bending from the force of the wind. MS Very light traffic on the streets of Miami. CUS Boat owners tying down their boats. MS Store owners boarding up the windows with plywood. LS College students standing in a group watching the turbulent ocean and some of their friends exiting the menacing and violent waves of the ocean - fast. MS Wind is really picking up bouncing one of the docked boats that isn't tied down well like a cork in water. MS Cabin cruiser partially sunken and other parts of smashed up boats floating around. MS A home that is continuously beaten by the violent waves of the ocean and the tremendous force of the hurricane winds. MS A tree uprooted and partially laying on a home. MS - Cars driving through flooded streets. MS - Building damage. MS - Store front damage and downed power lines. | |
