Nice shots of coal mine structures, men in mines, chipping away, drilling, terrific stuff, very stylish well-shot material documenting coal mining in the 1930s. Bestwood, Nottingham. Various shots of a coal mine. Men arrive at the mine and travel down to the coal face to work there; drilling, shovelling and blasting coal. An explosive charge is set off to break down the coal for loading into trucks. The trucks go up to the surface and into the tippler machine, where the coal is tipped out to be cleaned and sorted by men. Commentator says the average age of the men working here is 27. At the end of the working day, the men return their safety lamps. Good footage of a working coal mine. | |
