B-25 Bomber Crashes into Empire State Building. On July 28th, 1945, an Army Air Corps pilot, flying through heavy fog, thought he was about to land at Newark. When he saw that instead he was about to land at Radio City Music Hall he tried to correct his mistake and tilted the nose up- -but crashed into the 78th & 79th floors of the great 1248 ft high skyscraper- -at the time the world's tallest building. 14 people died in the accident and $1 million damage was done to the building. This newsreel story was compiled of library shots of the building before crash, a B-25 in flight, crowd looking up, etc with actualities of the aftermath of the crash incl. shots of crowd gathering, firefighters fighting blaze, a dead body on a ledge, LS of the Empire State building with a big gash down it. | |
