Description:BONSAI TREES (aka BONZAI TREES) Melville Clark introduces us to his collection of miniature bonsai trees.

Hampstead, North London.

Low angle M/S of an Bonsai tree. Melville Clark, a leading British authority on Bonsai trees, enters and starts primping the tree. M/S of Mr. C standing next to the 18 inch tree. Panning shot follows him over to table with more miniature trees on. He holds one up to admire it. The Bonsai originated in China many years ago when a monk found a tiny tree growing in a crevice on a mountain side and decided grow his own miniature tree by replicating the crevice conditions back at the monastery. C/U of Mr. C. placing the tree, a Robina, on the table. C/U of Mr. C. carefully pruning the little tree. M/S of Mr. C. looking over his half moon glasses and pruning the tree. M/S of Mr. C. picking up another bonsai, he tips the tree, a Ginkgo/ Gingko, upside down and removes its pot. C/U of Mr. C. trimming the roots of the upside down tree - "the successful cultivator needs to be more than a good gardener. Artistic skill together with care and patience are required since the Bonsai tree grows so slowly". Mr. C. replaces the pot - "the slender branches are tied with string; a small pot is used to restrict growth, while careful leaf and root pruning will make the tree closely resemble the fully grown variety". C/U of a tiny Turkey Oak sapling in a pot - one of the most popular varieties of Bonsai trees. M/S of the sapling next to an 18 year old Turkey Oak standing about a foot high. Top shot of Mrs. C. water the Bonsai trees on her roof garden, the road is visible below. M/S of Mrs. C. spraying a 200 year old Shimpaku (a type of juniper) with a small hose. C/U of the Shimpaku, tilt up the height of the tree. C/U of a tiny English elm. C/U of a small horse chestnut tree.
