| Description: | Same as catalog # 519037 Brattle Book Shop forced to move for urban renewal, redevelopment. The oldest antiquarian bookstore in the US is forced to clear out its stock and move to make way for the building's renovation. GV. of Boston with new construction in progress - large buildings. CU.Street sign "Cornhill". GV. Ext. of building which is to be demolished, the Brattle Bookshop with crowds lined up along the sidewalk. The store's old sign: "Oldest Continuous Antiquarian Book Shop Site in America 1925 Brattle Book Shop." MS the proprietor George Gloss ringing a bell (to signal next batch of customers to come in and take what they can). VS.Crowds pour into bookshop and help themselves to as many books as they can carry. People carrying stacks of books, dropping them into boxes, picking through shelves. One woman picks among mostly empty shelves and piles of books strewn about the floor. Ends with same GV of Boston as the opening shot. | |
