| Description: | "The White City & Olympia. British Industries 'show the World'! The Duchess of York sees all-British Fashion Parade - mannequins, materials & models - that Paris, at her best, could not excel." White City & Olympia, London. MS of people seated on raised seating. A fashion model parades in front of them. CU Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) seated watching the show. A model parades in front of them. MS of model in tight outfit parades in front of the audience. Another model parades. People in the front row of the audience get up and chat with others in the front row. One of the models (or possibly the designer) talks with the Duchess. CU the Duchess. MS models on set made to look like the deck of an ocean liner. Lots of different clothes on show, swim wear, trouser suits, evening wear, even a parasol - seems to be showing the variety of clothes a fashionable woman would need on a cruise (great 1930's fashion shot). Intertitle reads: "... H.M. The Queen & the Royal Family spend a busy day at Britain's 'Shop Window'." (Soundtrack cuts out) Queen Mary, wearing a dark hat and fur collared coat walks through door (man in background wears a monocle, he looks really upper class - possibly Austen Chamberlain). Other Royals and dignitaries walk in, including Duchess of York and possibly Duke of Kent. MS Queen Mary looking at items in display at British Industries Fair. The display is set up to look like a shop. MS Queen Mary and other walking past displays (Sign in BG reads "Paton Calvert & Co Ltd.). The Royal party look at toy display. Lots of stuffed toys and a sign saying 'Please Do Not Touch'. Queen Mary comes out of the exhibit and pulls a furry monkey toy from the front of the stand, she hands it to an aid. The man with the monocle stands next to her with grin. Queen Mary and party walk past a display of wheelchairs. | |
