Mr Gardner of the United States Chamber of Commerce sits at a desk with President Harry S Truman and John Snyder, Director of War Mobilisation and Reconversion Advisory Board. Gardner speaks into a microphone and passes a resolution endorsing the loan to Great Britain to Gardner, from several unions and federations of the Board. Gardner gives the resolution to Truman saying something along the lines of "when everyone agrees it must be a good thing". Truman tells both men he is delighted the policy has the approval of the board. He talks of pre-war Britain being the largest single customer of American goods. He talks of Britain during the war being restricted to trade with those countries with the pound sterling. He says "Now that the war is over we want to do business with Britain and Britain wants to do business with us". He talks about mutual trade connected with the loan and the building of trade between the two nations. | |
