| Description: | "Model No. 6. 1936. Four grammes of radium are now used. Radium skin distance is fixed at 7 cm. Two bomb heads are used with fields of different diameter. Small field - 3.5 cm diameter, large field - 9.0 cm diameter. Radium is transferred from the safe to one or the other bomb head by means of an electrically controlled mechanism consisting of the following parts: a) Lead safe containing a miniature lift. b) Control panel, with levers operating the electrical switches. c) Overhead gear which lowers and raises the bomb and rotates it from safe to patient and back. Diagram of treatment room and apparatus. Radium safe and miniature lift. Control panel. Automatic lading of radium from safe into bomb. Application of radium. Rotation of bomb. Lowering of bomb. Insertion of bomb into cup applied to patient." CU shiny metal topped table with a row of levers. Close up shot of the control panel of the new cancer treatment machinery - presumably radium safe. Man in lab coat moves switches around, and then turns handle on side. Doctor's hand sliding various levers on the machinery - charging the radium into 'bombs'. More shots of the machinery showing its operation. Radium is transferred from a safe onto bomb head. One of the balls (bombs) is lowered. Var shots of the overhead gear which raises the bomb and rotates it swinging it around from safe to patient. Then overhead gear raises the bomb and rotates it from safe to patient. Two bombs hanging off the overhead gear rotating, rasing and lowering bombs to patient and back. Woman lying in bed with a funnel shaped steel cup on her stomach. Bomb is lowered to the cup for the radium cancer treatment. Another woman in bed receiving the same treatment. Diagram of the machinery with parts being pointed at with a stick. Diagram of the 'bomb'. Drawing of the treatment with patient in bed with funnel on stomach and 'bomb' hanging over it. (nuclear medicine) | |
