| Description: | See also catalog # 511881 ASHBOURNE, Derbyshire, celebrates the advent of Lent with centuries old game of football through the town. An entire village becomes a pitch as all the men play a massive game of football. There are very few rules and no one takes the trouble of wearing a proper kit! M/S, looking over the heads of a crowd, of the scuffle between the men of the village for the football. Panning shot of the ball as it is thrown between men as they wade through a river, more men and boys wait eagerly from the banks. L/S of the game as it continues in the river, it is hard to tell whether the men are playing or brawling, crowds of more 'players' surge forward along the banks. M/S of the river; the ball gets passed from the players in the river to the crowd on the banks. M/S of the river again; the ball seems to have returned to the men in the water and they fight to get hold of it! | |
