| Description: | on preview cassette #98561 A This segment pertains to the changes local legislation had to undergo after the Supreme Court ruling of the Roe v. Wade case. The Court ruled that a woman has the constitutional right to an abortion during the first six months of pregnacy and the state can only restrict abortions during the final three months of pregnancy. In this segment, a reporter interviews a pro-life man who is trying to get the Ohio legislature to pass abortion restrictive laws that comply with the Supreme Court ruling. Reporter interviews man in an outdoor location. This is what the man has to say, "The Court and it's decision indicated that the state has a right when you get into the last trimester, to promulgate regulations and to enact statutes. And we're very concerned about this and we have attempted, as much as humanly possible, to protect the life of any child in the last trimester of pregnancy, or really in reality up after the twentieth week of pregnancy". Shot of reporter as he asks the question "Other than insuring that abortions be performed by a licensed physician, would this bill in any way interfere with the first trimester of pregnancy". The man responds "I think that the Court's interpretation is that we have no right unfortunately, in that area, and we must abide obviously by the Supreme Court's decision. Other than requiring a physician to perform it, there is nothing in the bill at all with respect to first trimester abortions". | |
