| Description: | CHURCHILL KICKS OFF ELECTION BATTLE Winston Churchill makes speech attacking Communism at Football Ground in Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton, West Midlands. CU Leader of the Conservative Opposition Winston Churchill. LV crowded stands. SV Churchill standing before mike. LV stands. LV stands. (Churchill begins speaking). CU Churchill speaking. 'This difference between Socialism and Communism is not one of principle or theory but one of method. The Socialists pursue their aims by constitutional methods, as is their right, and sincerely but vainly hope to preserve individual liberty. They are our fellow countrymen, however misguided, even though Mr Bevan calls us vermin. We must regard them as brothers, with whom, yes certainly, we must regard the other half of our fellow countrymen as brothers, apart from their politics, and realise that we have much in common with them. The Communists on the other hand are the lackeys and the tools of a foreign power, seeking the ruin of Britain and its subordination to the decrees of the oligarchy in Moscow.' CU 'We have the fate of Czechoslovakia before our eyes. That should be studied. We are glad that Socialists and Labour men should fight Communism. We are glad that it should be a common cause for all of us'. CU 'If we sink through Socialism into moral decline and collapse, not only will our own suffering be intense but we shall carry many other nations with us into Communism.'
