| Description: | ON PREVIEW CASSETTE 210906 J This segment pertains to a new workshop facility dedicated to people with mental and physical disabilities. The workshop is intended to help people with disabilities learn skills that will assist them in the workplace. The segment begins with a shot of Mayor Ralph Perk at a ribbon-cutting dedication ceremony. Perk does the honors of cutting the yellow ribbon. Interior shot of a basement looking environment with florescent lighting on the ceiling and no windows. Little work stations are set up about the place and people are busy with activity. CU of one of the stations. The table consists of two Caucasian men and one African-American man. The Caucasian man closest to the camera has Down's syndrome [Down syndrome]. All three men seem to be putting together some sort of pamphlet or type of literature. Shot of an instructional session. There are two tables filled with people and an instructor handing out items. Shot African-American adults playing an old schoolyard type of game. It is almost like jump rope but played with four long wooden sticks. Four people hold the sticks on the ground and move them back and forth. There are four people who stand inside the sticks and jump accordingly. Close view of a work station where two people are putting parts together. They both have large bins of parts placed on the table in front of them. An African-American man with a large afro and loud butterfly collar shirt supervises their progress Interview with an African-American man who talks about the workshop. As he speaks, you can see activity in the background. The man states that the new facility will provide youngsters with programs that were not previously offered. He goes on to say, youngsters will now have a fair chance to compete in a very hostile world.
