Story concerns the responsibility for rescue work there being transferred from the Sussex Police to the Fire Brigade of the nearby town of Eastbourne; here the Police give rescue lessons to the Fire Brigade. Beachy Head, Eastbourne, Sussex L/S Beachy Head cliffs. M/S and L/S as two men walk towards cliff edge to throw dummy over. The dummy is released and goes over the cliff, pan with dummy. C/U Police Constable George Bennett having harness fitted round his waist, pan to Bennett fitting harness. CU wide belt around man who will climb down; pan up to other man helping to fasten it. C/U Bennett. CU the volunteer prepares; checks microphone on cord. L/S taken from top of cliffs of the beach below, pan to the dummy. M/S's as Bennett goes down on stretcher. Man backs toward edge of cliff and down; pulling a rescue sled - tretcher with frame. M/S two men working winch, paying out cable. Various shots as he makes his way down cliff with stretcher. M/S police constables watching from top of cliff. L/S as Bennett reaches the dummy and lifts it onto the sled. M/S men pulling winch up. 5 men at the big pulley on top. C/U winch with cables being wound up. CU spool turning; winding up rope. Various shots as he makes his way up the cliff. Man coming back up; again with rescue sled in front. L/S as Bennett nears top of cliff. M/S as he comes up to the top. M/S other men helping to pull stretcher up. The sled and the man (and of course the dummy) coming over the top. The other guys pulling sled toward them. CU Man unhooking himself. M/S as Bennett starts to take off his harness. M/S Police drinking tea after rescue. M/S Bennett drinking tea. | |
