Mr. Stan Bult, secretary of the international Circus Clowns' Club, keeps a record of the faces of all the worlds' clowns, painted on eggshells; this is to assist in compliance with the unwritten law that no clown shall copy another's "face'. Croydon, Surrey. C/U of a white faced clown. His face is heavily made up and he wears a white conical hat. L/S shows that he is sitting at a table with a man who is painting an eggshell to show the particular design of this clown's make up. C/U of the artist, C/U of the egg being painted and the clown posing. The egg is turned and the artist paints on an ear. Narrator explains that this is to safeguard the unwritten law that clowns do not copy the make-up of another clown. The painter is Mr Stan Bult (sp? - this is spelling in commentary paperwork) who is the secretary of the International Circus Clown Club. He is painting egg shells to build up a register of faces. C/U of the tools of his trade - paintbrushes, eggs and paints. C/U of the design he is working on, Mr Bult and the clown. C/U of the egg as some black hair is applied - quite funny! A tiny white hat is placed onto the egg. The clown being immortalized is Michael Gerbola - better known as Clown Tony of Bertram Mills Circus. Mr Bult has a file index of over two thousand clowns & nearly 340 colored portraits. Coco the Clown turns up and sits with Mr Bult and Michael. C/U of various egg faces including an interpretation of Coco. C/U of Coco looking at the artist's impression. He does his famous "hair raising" stunt and pulls a funny face.
