| Description: | Collinson and Dean star in a 'Lying Argument'. The item is introduced by the comedian Ronald Frankau. L/S of the comedians Collinson and Dean seated at park bench. One of the comedy duo is dressed as a school boy, while the other is a dressed as a businessman. The business man accuses the schoolboy of telling lies he goes on to say. "I didn't tell lies at your age." To which the schoolboy cheekily replies "what age did you begin ?" The begins to get frustrated with the boy for his lack of knowledge, especially concerning the first American President George Washington. M/S of the Collinson and Dean standing up. After several arguments (and many more cheeky comments from the schoolboy), the businessman hands the boy a book on the life of George Washington the man "... who never told a lie." The schoolboy sits down again and starts to read the book. However, in doing so he sits on the business man's hat and squashes it, he moves it to one side and continues to read the book. The business man lights a cigarette and turns around to pick up his hat and sees it is squashed. The businessman raises his voice and says - "Who did that ?" To which the schoolboy, now fully believing that the right thing to do is to tell the truth after reading the book, kisses the book and says "I am sorry I cannot tell a lie I did it !". The businessman's response is immediate and he clouts the shocked boy around the head with the hat and walks off. | |
