| Description: | Use catalog # 494783 DANCE, DANCE, DANCE LITTLE ZULU! Zulu tribesmen perform a war dance. South Africa Before the dancing there is a procession of Zulu men walking in single file - going to rt. then making square corner & approaching camera, passing on left. The men are nearly all wearing striped rugby shirts which make an interesting contrast with their short fringed skirts - -made of leather , furs, etc. They also wear long white feathers attached to bands around their legs below the knee, beads, etc. and carry spears. LS group of African spectators, both men and women, many dressed in European style, standing behind fence. WS the dancers in a long row, stomping in place with high steps ; a man wearing only loincloth, holding shield and club, performs the same movements in front of the others w/ his side to them- -almost as if he's a dance teacher. 2 other men in the striped shirts walk around in the front; one seems to be blowing a whistle like a drill leader! MS musician beating on bass drum - and singing? He wears long white feather stuck to his forehead. LS dancers in group in rows 4-6 men across; performing dance w/ fast steps, jumping on one leg; they all lunge to side, almost down on the ground, then spring back up, holding their sticks in the air. Next, MS one man doing a wild fast dance while the others keep stomping in BG. The solo dancer, wearing shorts w/ skins around his waist, bag over his shoulder, small pouch etc. around his neck, runs in place at incredibly fast speed, sometimes punctuating this with kicks in the air; he finally collapses onto the ground. A crowd of Zulu women stand in rows, clapping wood blocks together in unison; some of them hold up umbrellas as sunshades; in front of them a row of dancers (at least men dressed like the dancers) sit on the ground. Good shot looking along row of men dancing with their spears laid in a row in front of them on the ground. The dancers are bending over a bit, their arms making fast pulling motions toward their bodies. Camera is so close to man on the end of the row that one can see the sweat shining on his brow; the man beside him jumps a few feet into the air seemingly out of uncontrollable excitement. LS front view: dancers still bending forward stomping; in center of row is a man wearing a big headdress of black feathers and holding a stick; he leaps into the air then lands and joins them in a few more stomps; ends suddenly with all the dancers falling forward onto the ground.
