On this same day Premier Pflimlin won a vote of 408 to 165 in favor of his proposed reform and then resigned. The vote seemed far less than it seemed. And there was no confidence that the government could deal with the looming threat of civil war. His resignation left DeGaulle more than ever a 'key figure' in this ordeal of France. General DeGaulle faces an awesome array of problems that beset the French nation and the world looks hopefully to the war time hero to open the door to a new - France. France in the 169 years since the storming of the Bastille, has been twice an empire. Thrice under kingdom rule. Once a Nazi-supported dictatorship. Four times a republic. A new and fateful turning has finally come to France. Her fourth republic, a sorry chronicle of confusion and dissension is starting on a new course under the leadership of aloof, inscrutable, mystical General Charles DeGaulle A demonstration takes place in Paris against General Charles DeGaulle. MOHS - A lot of demonstrators are carrying home made signs reading, ' Vive La Republique' MS - Throngs of protesters marching with a large banner reading 'Vie La Republique'. MSOH - Former Premier Mendez Fence as he spear heads the group of protestors. Some of the group consist of uninvited Communist and Socialist. LOHS - Throngs of demonstrators marching together looking like little ants. MS - The focal of interest shifted to the Presidential Palace, men waited around the clock. President René Coty argued that Charles DeGaulle was the one figure with prestige and strength to bring France out of crisis. MOHS - Hundreds of Newsmen holding their cameras and standing on top of cars. MS - Nighttime and the French people cheering for DeGaulle took to the streets of France. MS - Arc de Triomphe.
