| Description: | Out Of Focus, jumpy, over-exposed Democratic Convention More than 1,000 Democratic Delegates gather in Chicago, for the convention in which they were selected standard berries. Outstanding as Adlai Stevenson Democratic candidate in 1952. Shortly before the convention opens former President Harry S Truman announces his support of Governor Averill Harriman of New York. Who meets the gathering with his wife his hopes of winning enhanced by Truman support? Tennessee youthful Governor Clement in his keynote address lays heavy emphases on the civil rights plank. Governor Clement: [The issue of civil rights is one among several of major consequences that will be presented in this convention during this coming campaign. Any competent observer of the American Social, Racial, Political an Economic scene knows that civil rights, Segregation and related issues will be in the forefront in 1956. Our platforms and resolutions committee has been charged with bringing into this convention our stand on these issues. But there are three things in advance of this report that I want to say. First - Let those of you who represent the minority groups, look to your memory and search your conscience to decide under what National Leadership, and I mean Democratic or Republican, you receive the greatest total benefits, including the food your children crave. The luxuries their hearts desire, the rights their dignity demanded. Let the South remember, that whatever rights have been in question. Old Man History has proved conclusively that the GOP has never given the South anything but a hard way to go. And at last, our country needs our party. We need each other to win. There will be no solvable differences on this or any other subject at this 1956- Harmonies-Enlightened-Practical-Progressive and Victory Certain Democratic National Convention].
