Diabolo is an ancient Chinese game which was introduced in France in early 1700s and had a greater revival c. 1907 (which is why titles from this 1926 film say "Remember the time when Diabolo swept the boards?" Sergeant Brennan, the Champion. MCU Sergeant Brennan holding some strange looking objects, it's really a toy called a diabolo, 2 sticks with string between them and a thing shaped like a miniature barbell which is not attached to the rest. The idea is to hold a stick in each hand & move them around to make the barbell roll on the string, bounce, even to toss it up in the air and catch it again with string or stick. Pulled back shot of Sergeant Brennan demonstrating the thing. Sergeant Brennan is indeed a master of this game. He's able to make the thing jump, spin and form weird shapes. He even uses his feet. Next he starts tossing the rolling thing back & forth between spring mattresses (according to titles that's what it is) and the string.
