| Description: | Crippled returning from shrine at Lourdes, France. Slow pan to left on people waiting at railway station; w/ luggage on floor in front of them; many of the people wear medals - most do not appear obviously crippled; though a few carry canes. (From now on location is outside in rain; people huddle under umbrellas; trucks and horse-drawn wagons rattle past - it all looks very depressing.) Brief shot of older man carrying crutches. People make way as 2 men carry a little girl slumped down in a chair. 2 women help another crippled woman; well-dressed ; walk toward camera - she may be crying. A crippled young girl; about 12-14; leans on a cane and her mother; who is carrying a lot of things; they both look very happy. 2 men carry another young girl past; she holds her crutches across her. 4 men emerge from crowd; carrying a woman on a chair; a 5th man follows w/ crutches. People stand in rain looking; waiting. 2 men ; upper-class (dignified older man in back must be father)-- carry a crippled and retarded boy in a big chair . 2 working-class men carry a friend; using their arms for a chair. A woman pushes another in a wheelchair. 2 more women are carried past. (Meanwhile at left side of crowd; 2 little boys who are staring - look like they're barefoot!) Then pan along people standing behind a fence (think this is earlier; at station.) | |
