| Description: | Down below the River... A Mersey sidelight. Liverpool, Merseyside. Several shots of the River Mersey, the Liver Building and ferries crossing between Liverpool and Birkenhead. We then see various shots of work on the Mersey tunnel which started in 1925 and was nearly completed at this time. Works vehicles move through dimly lit tunnel where men are still working. Workmen are seen drilling the ground before laying cast iron slabs on the reinforced concrete road through the tunnel. A man uses one of the many emergency telephones in the tunnel and we see how it is ventilated with fresh air coming from the surface. | |
