| Description: | DOWN IN THE WEE ONES CORNER Mr J.H. Dowd - an artist who draws children - is featured. Shot of the artist in FG in a park standing by tree sketching & looking over to where children are playing on one of those things w/ swings attached to a big center pole. MCU Dowd sketching. MS little boy w/ his puppy on a leash- -both very cute. MS baby/toddler, c. 18 months old, in stroller looking at newspaper comics. CU another kid, about the same age, in a baby buggy. MLS Dowd bending down to show sketchpad to kid in stroller; mother sitting on bench and older sister (c. 3 yrs) standing beside; then he tries to show it to the 3 yr old who walks off uninterested & throws a ball instead. (Incidentally, this little girl is wearing a rather strange bulky fuzzy outfit, looks like mohair dress over mohair pants w/ matching cap! Next, MLS another child c. 3 or 4, comes up to an ancient lady selling balloons; the child puts coin on the vendor's lap and the elderly woman gives her a balloon; meanwhile, Dowd stands in BG sketching the event. CU Dowd sketching; pad is full of various rough drawings of kids faces, etc. Shots of little boy stands by pond tossing bread to the swans; either he's not throwing far enough or the swans aren't hungry, because they're not rushing to the snacks. MLS Dowd in the midst of a group of working-class boys about 6-10 yrs old. CU boy of 9 or 10 holding his little brother, c. age 2, who is crying; he is hugging him & trying to get him to stop. Titles say that the boys suggested Dowd "giv'im a penny, Guv'nor!" CU the little guy, up on brother's shoulders; Dowd's hand reaching toward him holding up a penny. The unhappy toddler glances dubiously at the coin and rejects the filthy lucre. Finally, MCU Dowd sits at home sketching. CU sketch of the 2 brothers. CUs more sketches by Dowd. Babies, family. | |
