| Description: | Great 1960s (or so) drive-in movie theatre advertisements for the snack bar, etc. Live-action optical shot with line of hot dogs in one half of frame, woman's hand smearing mustard on a weiner in the other. Narrator talks about the delicious treats at the drive-in snack bar: "there's delicious coffee freshly brewed..." while woman pours coffee into paper cup. This is just a section of a trailer; the coffee shot is repeated but the second version suffers from emulsion deterioration 02:00:32 nice animated sequence: a cartoon scientist with inevitable German accent runs down the menu, showing whimsical machines cranking out hot dogs, pop corn and drinks. "Candy too, crunchy and dandy ..." is a great line as a jumble of goodies tumbles out of an unlikely chute. Screen puts up "Intermission" card as the professor's speech is garbled because his mouth is full 02:00:57 CU pixillated word "Popcorn" spelled out with actual popcorn on screen! Buzz on soundtrack due to shrinkage, but usable ("hot popcorn, just popped") 02:01:06 colorful animated shapes with flashing "intermission" sign as narrator exhorts audience "It's intermission -- rise and stretch time ... got a yen" and the film is cut, which is a funny auditory effect. Animated collage of snack bar treats: sandwich, hamburger, ice cream, cola, coffee, pie, hot dog 02:01:22 animated candy, soft drinks, coffee (brief clip with narration garbled at end) 02:01:31 optical wipes of live action shots: hot dog, french fries and popcorn with LOTS of butter appear in separate sections of one frame 02:01:42 brief clips of cartoon sequences clueing audience to coming end of intermission: "2 minutes to go" (brief) has a beatnik character; the words "Refreshment Time" zip onto another screen, surrounded by spiraling concentric circles, as if to induce hypnosis. Interesting optical wipe to great drawing of drive-in with cars and snack bar, plus those great shots of cartoon coffee and other snacks 02:02:07 French can can music plays as balloons appear on screen, popping to reveal a cartoon woman in fishnet hose wearing three balloons (which don't pop). Title card "1 minute to go" appears, then nicely animated "Last Call for Refreshment Time" words on screen. Dazzling animation with different colored dots forming patterns on screen, then title "It's Showtime Folks!" and "Enjoy the Show" 02:02:59 END OF TAPE | |
