| Description: | President Eisenhower pledges cooperation of federal government In speeding relief to six states in southwest hard hit by drought. Following conferences with governors, the President addresses farmers and ranchers facing ruin. CUS - In Amarillo, Texas President Eisenhower discusses relief with agriculture secretary, Benson and other Governors with six effected states. CUS - President Eisenhower speaks before a huge gathering, ranchers and farmers. President Eisenhower 'Of course I came with no magic formula. Nothing could have pleased me more then to run into a rain storm and was unable to land. But I could come and learn and I could come and assure them of one thing. The heart of the Federal Government is not concerned wmerely with Washington and New York City. It is concerned with he United State of America and every man, woman and child in it. Now, I don't know everything that can be done. And in fact even here I find that there is not complete unanimity of opinion as to exactly what should be done. I do know this, everybody including the federal government says…what ever it is, lets do it now. We’re not going to dilly dally and wait until the last cow is starved and dieing in the range before something is done. It’s going to be done now”. | |
