| Description: | EARTH POWER AND HOW IT IS BEING HARNESSED Volcanic energy and heat. Men harness the power of thermal activity. California LS 5 men in shirts & trousers and hats come walking toward camera along side of rocky slope; they stop to look at a spot where steam is coming from a mound of rocks c. 3' high. MCU bubbling water in a sort of "bowl" in the rocks- - steam rising from this "puddle" which is boiling furiously. MLS 7 men now standing around the small mound of rocks. Next they start tossing their hats over the mound of rocks, and the hats are blown away from it. This looks rather silly. One man holds a stick w/ a handkerchief tied to it over the hole and the handkerchief blows upward. Another guy bends down and "sets" his hat on top of the steam and it goes spinning away. A bit more hat tossing ensues. Next, LS one man poking a stick at another hole on the hillside with a lot of steam pouring out of it. LS a structure which looks sort of like a well, w/ a tall pole sticking up. A tall stream of water suddenly gushes out of the ground alongside this pole. Pan up w/ water. MLS 2 men come running up slope toward camera and a 3rd man stands staring as another stream of water comes shooting up out of the ground with great force! Closer shot of this vertical jet of water, w/ steam rising around it. WS steam coming out of pipes on rocky hillside; men standing near the pipes; man turns wheel to open safety valve of nearest pipe, letting more and more steam out. MS 3 guys perched on hillside by this machinery; the man standing nearest pipe opening takes some piece of clothing and drops it in front of pipe; the steam instantly whisks it away and it goes flying up in the air. another guy perched on machinery at rt. | |
