Fade in on titles: Elkhart Health and Welfare Foundation presents "Elkhart Unites", produced by Frink Stduios. Fade in on Emerson Martin, on screen right, and Bob Wiley in a living room set. Cut to the radio as the local news starts to talk about the local fund drive. Dissolve to an aerial shot of Elkhart, Indiana (center of town). News ends, and the radio is turned off. Emerson, the news editor of the local paper the Elkhart Truth, interviews Bob, head of the fund drive. Wiley says they are not charitable organizations, but voluntary community services.
Dissolve to Boy Scout sequence: Pioneer Trails council sign in CU. Four scouts in uniformsits around a campfire: CU of the flames. Dissolve to an archery target with arrows. Uniformed scouts as archers. LS of the group with archery equipment. Dissolve to scouts in rope-knot-tying-group. CU of hands with knots. FO/FI to Girl Scouts, uniformed, playing game of racing to see which group can dress baby dolls the quickest. Scene ends with an ECU of the dressed dolls. F)/FI on Bob and Emerson discussing government supported agancies versus local groups. FO/FI on ECU of Community Services Building directory sign, listing the groups. Dissolve to Family Services with a woman at a desk, counseling a couple. ECU the two narrators talking.
FO/FI on children swinging on swings at a playground. Cut to children on teeter totters. Cut to a girl sliding on a slide. Cut to a group of kids eating at a table. ECU of a girl taking a slice of bread, pan to boy and ECU of a bottle of milk on the table. Cut to a child wearing braces and attempting to walk with crutches as a woman, her arms outstretched, encourages the child; a man behinds her is ready to catch her if she falls. Cut to a CU of a boy wearing earphones while his female instructor teaches him sounds which he mimics; he comes closer to her and she embraces him. Cut to a young girl being taught to paint by an older woman. Cut to a young boy with braces trying to climb a set of stairs by using handrails as an older woman watches on; he struggles yet succeeds, much to her encouragement.
Health services: in the baby clinic, a row of babies being dressed. A woman weighs a baby. A dcotor examines the infant. CU of the baby as a doctor examines his mouth with a dental mirror. LS and ECU of the happy baby. Indiana Heart Foundation: FI on technician's hand draining microscope slides in stain baths. Cancer society X-ray technician lowering the head of an X-Ray machine.
Youth and recreation services: boys canoeing, boys swimming in a lake and indoor pool at the YMCA. Boys diving. YMCA: seven women in a meeting. Group of girls relax in a YW room as one reads a letter to the others. CU of a young woman ironing. Newcomers Club: young man and woman meet and dance. Black choir sings at Booker T. Washington Center. FI on Red CRoss as a nurse hands a seated woman an issue of Time Magazine while another takes her temperature and yet another takes her pulse. Pan three faces with thermometers in their mouths. Her blood pressure is taken and then she gives blood. Nurse removes the equipment and the bottle of blood is taken out. Administration building: LS of the exterior and MCU as a man enters through the door. Community Services sign. ECU of said sign. LS of the building. Central Palnning Group meets and pan audience (State Senator Eldon Lundquist, front row, right end). Back to Emerson Martin, Truth writer. Talks to Bob Wiley. Cut to two young children playing. CU of child playig, a brace on his leg. Polio child tries to walk as film ends abruptly.
