| Description: | "THE EMPIRE EXHIBITION OPENED BY H M THE KING". Glasgow, Scotland. Various shots of the opening ceremony of the Empire Exhibition. King George VI (Prince Albert, Duke of York) and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mother, Duchess of York) ride around Ibrox Stadium in an open coach as massive crowds cheer. The King makes a speech from the dais (natural sound). Then there is a fanfare of trumpets, the crowd cheers, flags are unfurled and RAF planes fly overhead. The King and Queen get into their coach and visit several pavilions in the exhibition at Bellahouston Park. Huge crowds watch them go in and out of buildings. Before going into the Palace of Arts , the royals stop to inspect veterans of the Glasgow Exhibition of 1888. Next they visit the Clachan Village - "a perfect representation of the rural life of the Highlands". 85-year-old Mrs Morrison from the Outer Hebrides demonstrates the centuries old art of Scottish spinning. Several brief shots of pavilions in the exhibition. | |
