| Description: | Tape 7551 B END OF BONUS ARMY The protests of the Bonus Army are broken up by armed troops and tear gas. Washington, D.C., USA Police escort men out of partially demolished buildngs which had been occupied by the Bonus Army. 2 police officers carry a passive resister down steps. Shots of policemen gripping a protester and running with him toward police van past others who are just standing around; although V/O talks of an out-of-control situation the footage doesn't reflect this. GV Capitol, pan down to show a crowd along side of street in FG; police seem to be in control. LS/MS cavalry troops riding down Pennsylvania Ave past a crowd of spectators; then tanks drive down the street. Infantrymen with fixed bayonets drive back the protesters. LS soldiers stand guard on street; one can see smoke in park in BG; V/O says that military is clearing the encampments. Soldiers w/ gas masks run down street. Soldiers throwing tear gas bombs. Shots of the shacks in flames; some firemen standing by. Pan on the demolished former Bonus Army camp. More shacks burning. LS Smoke rising above trees, blowing over Capitol building. | |
