"We are about to proceed to the United States of America to meet both our Canadian and American friends on probably one of the most important missions in history. Ever since the close of the war, we have been striving, with them, to build up a sound, world peace, and however much we may achieve success in political understanding and in devising methods and treaties to achieve that end, unless we can find the right answer to the financial and economic problems we shall hot have made a sound foundation for the future peace of the world. ... Therefore I would ask the public not to expect a final solution in a moment. This is a task, like others, that we have to go on day by day, week by week, building up trust, confidence, trade, exchange and security. That spirit, both Sir Stafford and I are leaving these shores, as a team, representing a united Government I believe representing a united nation, to try to achieve a solution, which will give to all the peoples, peace and prosperity. MS. Cameramen move forward as Bevin finished speaking. SCU. Bevin speaking. ...upon this occasion, we are proceeding to discuss the problem, not only in the narrow limits of finance or trade, but in its relation to the whole problem of the future safety and security of the world."
