| Description: | Another 'Pathetone' Topical Talkie - A peep at ERNIE LOTINGA - the famous comedian in 'My Wife's Family', filmed at Garrick Theatre, London. Filmed during an actual performance. Situation comedy starring Ernie Lotinga. He enters the stage wearing a dressing gown and carrying a newspaper. He receives a round of applause from the audience. He is quickly informed by his wife that "... you can't meet mother like that." After much arguing and protesting Lotinga (his character's name is Jimmy) is forced to hide under a coffee table as his mother-in-law arrives early. Lotinga rummages through his mother-in-law's bag and takes out and drinks a bottle of brandy. He is also seen pulling her knitting apart and eating some of her fruit, the audience is in hysterics at his antics. Meanwhile his wife's mother who is seated next to the table oblivious to Lotinga. She voices her disapproval that he did not pick her up from the station. After more antics from Lotinga he eventually runs up the stairs clutching his stomach his mother-in-law informs his wife that the bottle in her bag was actually medication for her chest ! | |
