| Description: | ESCAPED PRISONER RETURNS HOME Early melodramatic film about a prisoner returning home under tragic circumstances.French(?). Melodrama; very sad short - just one scene. Room with flowered wallpaper; lace curtains. On left; escaped prisoner sits on the bed of his invalid wife; who just lies there. On right; the maid; terrified; is at the door -- the guards have tracked the escapee here. The guards enter; hold up rifles. But the prisoner raises his hand (No! Don't shoot!) and shows them the sick wife in bed. They allow him to bid her farewell. He kisses her cheek; her hand. He picks up the baby who has been lying in bed with her; kisses the infant and hands him to the nurse; then sits on the bed crying. Guard taps him on shoulder; time to go. He stands and leaves in a dignified but melodramatic manner. The nurse; holding baby; sits on bed and sobs. | |
