| Description: | EVE IN THE SWIM Story, mostly animation, about various devices for attempts at crossing the English Channel. United Kingdom CU woman holds up sideways a canvas shoe with a folding bottom which is either flat or folds lengthwise into an angle. She turns it to show bottom and top. MS woman putting on these shoes (she is in swimsuit seen from waist down). MLS tilt down: woman swimming across pool toward camera, doing breast stroke; can see that she's got these things on her feet. Animation. Man in swimsuit with rocket strapped to his back. MS about to light fuse announces that the guy is attempting a cross-channel swim. The rocket is lit, he goes flying over the water and finally flies right into the mouth of a huge fish which jumps up to chomp him. Title talks of memories of "dear old school days at Pentonville" which must be a prison or borstal, because there's a cartoon of a buy sitting in cell with ball and chain. Animated cartoon of a man on an unusual water craft, propelling himself by running on a paddlewheel while pulling ropes to turn the rudder back and forth. A blow-up policeman floats past with a sign sticking up from his helmet which says "GO". "The Channel Hop" Woman with a big floating ball strapped to her feet, bouncing up and down across the surface of the water. Finally, title re. "the true sportsman who, alone and unaided, battles with the Channel!" Cartoon of man swimming along the surface of the dark water. Color disappears from water to reveal that the man is cheating. Hhe's actually balancing on top of a periscope of a submarine moving along underwater at a fast speed. | |
